Design Challenge: How might we use virtual reality to reduce domestic violence?
I felt that by immersing domestic violence abusers in the victim’s perspective of domestic violence, they could gain empathy and change their behavior. Virtual reality would be more effective than a video because users would have an opportunity to be fully immersed–they could not escape the noise, the physical location, and the actual violence being perpetrated against them. They could also witness the evidence of abuse in the room and on their virtual body, like bruises on their arms, disheveled furniture, and a frightened child.
